Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
3 tbsp sugar
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1/2 tsp salt
1 egg
1/2 cup whole milk
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
1 packet active dry yeast
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and nutmeg.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, whole milk, butter, and yeast.
- Slowly pour egg mixture in to bowl while whisking. Once combined, place on an oiled surface. Knead dough for 10-15 minutes. Place in greased bowl and let rise for 2 hours.
- On a floured surface, roll out dough until 1/2 inch thick. Cut out desired shape. Let rest for 30 minutes.
- Fill large saucepan with canola oil. Let reach 320 degrees. Place doughnut into oil. Flip once golden brown. Place on wire rack or paper towel. Let cool. Decorate with royal icing recipe (optional). Fill with pastry cream (optional).
